Year 7s soar and splash on Outdoor Pursuits adventure

Our new Year 7 learners enjoyed an action-packed start to their Martin High School adventure, attending a thrilling trip to the Outdoor Pursuits Centre in Leicester City Centre.

Split into two groups, the 150-strong cohort visited the centre on two separate days and were able to take part in two exciting activities.

First up was climbing. After receiving a demonstration from the instructors, learners soared up the 40ft climbing wall, with many reaching the very top. This was also a brilliant opportunity to build connections with their new peers as, whilst some children scaled the wall, other learners were stood below, holding the guide rope and feeding it through, allowing the climber to progress up the wall.

Learners then took to the water for raft building. Working together, children had to construct a floatable vessel from large drums, rope and large bamboo rods. Once they had built their raft, it was time to test them. Tentatively, our learners placed their craft on the water and then jumped on, before sailing from one side of the riverbank to the other.

Despite the rain and the cold, the standout highlight for many was being able to jump into the river after they had finished testing their rafts!

It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Learners behaved impeccably, demonstrated the 4Rs and were able to make friends with children from other primary schools.

Well done Year 7, we can’t wait to see how you progress this year!
