Year 10 Learners Embark on an Unforgettable Icelandic Adventure
During February half-term, 50 Year 10 learners from Martin High School embarked on an unforgettable residential trip to Iceland. This annual event, a highlight of the school calendar for the past decade, offered Geography students a chance to see first-hand the concepts they studied in class.
After an eventful start, including a significant flight delay, the cohort arrived in Iceland on Monday evening, ready for a week of adventure. Day Two saw them visit the Lava Centre to learn about tectonic plates and volcanic history, followed by exploring stunning waterfalls like Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss.
The next day, students ventured into the Lava Cave and marvelled at Iceland's volcanic landscapes. Their journey continued with visits to the Kerid Crater, Gulfoss, Geysirs and Thingvellir National Park, completing the famous 'Golden Circle' and bringing their curriculum to life.
On Day Four, the group explored Reykjavík, taking in sights like the Hallgrímskirkja Church and enjoying a 5D cinematic fly over Iceland experience. A coastal walk then led them to the Laugardalslaug Swimming Pool, before the trip concluded with a pizza feast at an Italian restaurant before their early morning flight back to the UK.
The trip provided invaluable real-world insights into their Geography curriculum, leaving students with unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of the natural world.
