Sports Awards Evening 2024

On a warm Tuesday evening in June, in front of 250 spectators, we held our first ever Sports Awards Evening.

The event – which took place in our Sports Hall – was all about celebrating a year full of fantastic sporting achievements. From our Key Stage 4 Girls’ Football Team being crowned County Champions, to our brilliant – and exhausting! – 24-hour Basketball Challenge, to our ground-breaking ‘Let Girls Play’ event, it has been quite a year of sport at Martin High School.

“It was wonderful to see so many of our learners and parents/carers out celebrating our students’ sporting successes,” said PE Lead, Mrs Coates.

“We have had a phenomenal year in sport with over a third of the whole school population representing our school in sport in some capacity.

“It was really special to be able to share these successes with our wider community and we particularly want to say thank you to our sponsors of Anstey Runners, Gaddesby Kitchens and Parkerlec who without their generous contribution, the night would not have gone ahead.”

Alongside the awards presentation, Jessica Warner-Judd – a professional middle- and long-distance runner who represented Team GB in the 2020 Olympics – also attended and gave a passionate speech about her career in athletics. She emphasised how her sporting career began at school and revealed more about her travels around the world and her Docterate research.

We would also like to extend a special thank-you to Mr Davies for the months of hard work he has put into organising the event behind the scenes. He is sadly leaving Martin High this year to go and teach abroad, but the event and success enjoyed this year would not have been possible without him.

Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all those attended.
