Martin High Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day marks the end of the First World War in 1918. Millions of people in the UK and around the world pause for a moment on this day to join in commemorations to remember those who gave their life for their country.
At Martin High, each year group joined a special Remembrance Day assembly on Friday to understand the history and meaning of the day, with Student Ambassadors reading poems to their peers. Learners also observed a two-minute silence.
A collection of poppies were created by Art and Design Club learners by folding and cutting paper and card, which were then placed in the formation of a wreath. The wreath features a cross in the centre with the words 'Lest We Forget' in the middle. Year 7 learners Natalie R, Macy B, Evie R, Aaron C, Kupa M and Julia K all contributed to the creation of the wreath along with Year 8 and 9 learners Edith M-H, Jennifer H, Isla V, Jennifer C, Harrison W and Evelyn S.
Poppies are an enduring symbol of remembrance as they are used to commemorate those who gave their lives due to them flourishing on the grounds that were fought on during WWI.
Art and Design Teacher, Ms Marsh said: "This was all the work of our learners and they have done an amazing job! I am so proud of what they've achieved."
The wreath is proudly displayed in our school.
