LGBTQ+

We are proud to have been awarded the Skilled Teacher strand as part of the Rainbow Award. Staff have been working hard to recognise and consistently challenge and report LGBTphobia, and are confidently using positive and appropriate language around LGBT+ identities

We are also excited to announce the start of our LGBTQ+ Club that meet Monday lunch in our Sixth Form common room.

All identities and allies welcome!

The Rainbow Flag Award is a quality assurance framework for all educational institutions, focusing on LGBTQ+, (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, plus other related identities), inclusion and visibility. The Award encourages a holistic approach to LGBTQ+ inclusion, as well as developing strategies to combat homophobic, biphobic and transphobic, (HBT), bullying.
MHS’s dedication to achieving the Rainbow Flag Award is a commitment to improve the lives of all the young people that MHS works with, as well as the LGBTQ+ young people in our care, those from LGBTQ+ families, and LGBTQ+ staff members.
Through a process of self-assessment and ongoing monitoring and feedback, we hope to meet the set standards in each of the following areas:

Work has already begun with a focus on LGBTQ+ history month, in our UNITED sessions as well as in individual subject areas. We have received fantastic feedback from our young people. Our staff have received CPD on LGBTQ+ inclusion, and have made independent pledges to support the community. Subject areas have been working hard to ensure rooms and corridors are celebrating LGBTQ+ work through displays and tasks.
MHS are excited to continue this work and receive the Rainbow Flag Award.
