County Champions 2024

A huge congratulations to our Key Stage 4 Girls’ Football Team, who were crowned County Champions at the start of May.

Enroute to the showpiece final, the girls combined tremendous teamwork with silky football and a strong work ethic, as they swiftly dispatched three other schools - Wreake Valley, Loughborough High School and Ashby School – to book their place at Leicester City’s Seagrave Training Ground, where they met John Fernley College.

Such was the level of skill and concentration in the side, the girls had never gone a goal down throughout all their matches prior to the final. And that fantastic run continued as, after a flying start, Martin High netted an early goal to take the lead; only for John Fernley to level the contest before half-time.

Throughout the second half, though, the girls’ class shone through. Creating chance after chance, they eventually found the net on three more occasions to secure a 4-1 victory and lift the County Cup for the first time in 14 years.

Congratulations to all the girls who participated in all four matches during the competition and a special shout out to Lola and Evie who scored the crucial goals in the final.

On the achievement, PE Teacher Rebecca Harris said: “We are extremely proud of this team and cannot be happier that they’ve won the trophy they deserve.  We would like to thank all the staff, parents and supporters who came down to support the team.”
