Ryan David Bray
Ryan's journey from an enthusiast in English to the Head of KS3 was all initially inspired from his time here at Martin High School.Ryan’s love for English began at Martin High School and inspired him to want a career in teaching. Through years of hard work and study, he built his way up from the position of a Volunteer Teaching Assistant to Head of KS3.
At Martin High, Ryan’s biggest inspiration was his teacher, Mr Thomas, who really believed in him to be the best he can be. Reflecting on his secondary school experience, he realises how foundational those years were in setting him up for his future. It was during that time that Ryan learned to be independent, acquired new skills, established routines and habits, and delved into new topics. These experiences shaped his approach to learning and personal development, laying a strong foundation for his future career.
"When I was a teenager, I never knew my love for English would lead to me becoming a teacher. All I knew was that I wanted to do something that made me happy, and that is the advice I give to anyone who asks me now about what they should do when it comes to picking their options or career paths - do what makes you happy and what you enjoy."
After completing college, Ryan went on to get a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Education at the University of Derby. In addition, he achieved the National Award for Special Education Needs from the University of Northampton. Going to University is one of Ryan’s biggest achievements to get him to where he is today.
Ryan began his career by volunteering as a Teaching Assistant (TA), driven by a passion for education and a commitment to supporting students in their learning journeys. Over the years, he has had the privilege of working in a behaviour school that not only challenged him but also provided immense opportunities for growth and professional development. Now, Ryan has successfully worked his way up to the role of Head of KS3 in the largest Social, Emotional, Mental Health needs school in the East Midlands. His job consists of various tasks ranging from Mentoring current students to working on the Alumni podcast network, and sourcing Work Experience placements.
Ryan's story displays a strong journey through life, in which Martin High School are proud to be the kick start to his career!
