Martin High Goes the Distance with 24‑Hour Football Fundraiser

Our staff and students recently united for an incredible (and tiring!) 24 hour indoor football challenge to raise money for Comic Relief.

The non‑stop event kicked off at 1pm on Thursday 26th March and continued through the night before concluding at 1pm the following day. Players competed in three‑hour slots, with staff and students rotating on and off to keep energy levels high and ensure the game continued without pause for a full 24 hours.

A highlight of the fundraising challenge came during the 6pm to 9pm slot when we were joined by our local football club, Anstey Nomads. Accompanied by former Leicester City goalkeeper Conrad Logan, several members of the men’s first‑team squad took to the court, giving staff and students a real run for their money.

As the sun rose the next morning, the competition remained fierce, with the Red Team and Blue Team battling for bragging rights until the very end. When the final whistle finally blew, a winner was declared.

Clinching a narrow victory were the Blue Team, who edged past the Reds by just five goals with a final score of 554 to 549. Shockingly though, despite a remarkable 1,103 goals being scored, the match still failed to make it onto Match of the Day that weekend.

More importantly, the event raised an incredible £1,540 for Comic Relief, helping to support vital projects in the UK and around the world. The fundraising page remains open, so if you would still like to donate, please click here.

The school is extremely proud of everyone who took part, whether playing, supporting or helping to organise the event. The challenge showcased the strong sense of community at Martin High and highlighted what can be achieved when students and staff work together for a great cause.
