Martin High Students Step Outside the Ordinary at Lionheart Sports Day
For a group of Martin High students, a recent school day looked a little different, as they swapped their usual timetable for a day of sport, teamwork and career inspiration at Knighton Tennis Centre. The Lionheart Sports Performance and Careers Day brought together Year 9 and 10 students from across the Trust, offering a chance to try new activities and hear from someone who’s worked at the top level of professional sport. Our students took part in four sessions: boxing, cricket, pickleball and a careers talk — each one offering something unique.
Pickleball was a surprise favourite, with students quickly picking up the fast-paced game and getting competitive in the best way. Cricket gave them a chance to work together and sharpen their skills, while the boxing session encouraged focus, movement and resilience.
The careers talk, led by former footballer Andy Morrell, gave students a real insight into the world of sport beyond just playing. His stories were honest and relatable, and our students asked thoughtful questions that showed real curiosity.
It was a day full of learning, laughter and stepping out of comfort zones. Our students represented Martin High with maturity and enthusiasm — and we’re proud of how they embraced the experience.
Thanks to Lionheart for putting together such a valuable and well-organised event.
