Leicester City Football Tournament

Recently, students from Martin High School had the amazing opportunity to compete in a football tournament at Leicester City’s training ground.

On a scorching summer morning, the students arrived at the state-of-the-art Seagrave Training complex alongside six other secondary schools.

Upon arrival, the children were given a tour of the training ground. Arguably the best training facility in the country, this was where the likes of Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes and James Maddison were put through their paces during last season’s Premier League campaign. The children were in awe as they walked through the complex, gazing at the facilities and resources available to some of their footballing heroes.

After the tour, the children were taken to the clubhouse, their base for the day, and the rules and rota were explained to them.

The matches would be 7-a-side and last for eight minutes, with each school playing every other school at least once. Then, the two schools with the best record would face off in a final, with the victor claiming the LCFC Inspires Trophy.

Martin High brought nine players, yet the children, showing tremendous teamwork and empathy, ensured they took turns and made sure every squad member received the same about of playing time, thus making it fair for everybody.

After an exciting and action-packed collection of matches, with some excellent football on show, Martin High finished the day in a highly commendable fourth place, receiving a medal to celebrate their achievements.

The overall winners of the event were Countesthorpe Academy, who triumphed 2-1 over The Cedars Academy, a fellow member of the Lionheart Educational Trust.

Staff, though, were extremely proud of how all the Martin High students conducted themselves, noting how all of them embodied the school motto; “aim high, work hard and be kind.”

Well done!
