DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD

COVID UPDATE

Following on from rising Covid rates the Government has asked that face masks be reintroduced in all secondary schools for students and staff in communal areas. This is a sensible way to help keep students, staff and our wider community safe from Covid this winter.

Therefore, with immediate effect, we are requesting that all students (except those with a medical exemption) wear a face mask when travelling on school transport, in communal spaces and when queueing indoors for food.
Please remember to continue to perform a lateral flow test twice weekly.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping our local communities healthy and safe.

At Martin High School Students can complete their Bronze and Silver award.

Highly respected by employers and Higher Education, the DofE programme is known and celebrated for encouraging personal development and togetherness. So, Be Adventurous, Be Bold.

Each level of the Award has four elements that have to be completed typically over three to twelve months depending on the level:

ELEMENT EXAMPLE

Volunteering

Voluntary work in the local community that could be combined with potential work experience e.g. Teaching, Coaching, Childcare.

Physical

Regular participation in a sport or fitness activity e.g. Football or Netball Teams/Clubs

Skills

Learn or improve a skill over a period of time e.g. Cooking or Music.

Expedition

A two to four- day walking journey with camping to develop teamwork.

Residential

Gold only. Time away from home meeting new people in a different environment.

Experience tells us that each level of the award provides a young person with new insights into their capabilities and by trying new things it helps confidence to grow plus develop useful skills.
